RPI delegation returns from China
A delegation of the Regional Peace Institute (RPI) returned from China after participating in celebrations to commemorate the World Day of Peace. The delegation comprised Mr. Raoof Hasan, Executive Director, RPI, Lt. Gen. (R) Asad Durrani and Ms Shala Hasan.
During their stay in China lasting five days, the delegation visited Xi’an and Beijing and took part in events relating to the Silk Road Project and the Collective Security Proposal put across by the Chinese President.
Raoof Hasan presided over a Focus Session discussing the theme of “People need Sustainable Peace: Innovating the Security Mechanism in Asia” while Lt. Gen. (R) Asad Durrani made a presentation during the same session.
During their visit, the delegation also had meetings with the officials of their counterpart in China – the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD). The two sides agreed to initiate the China-Pakistan-Afghanistan Trilateral immediately. This is in conformity with the Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) signed by the CPAPD and RPI in Islamabad last February.
The first round of the event would be held in Beijing in the second week of December later this year. Delegations from Pakistan, Afghanistan and China would take part in the dialogue.
The Trilateral moot would be preceded by a Pakistan-China Bilateral dialogue to discuss ways and means to further cement the existing close bonds between the two neighbouring countries that would further enhance the prospects of peace in the region.
